Canada has achieved its best-ever finish at a FIFA World Cup, advancing to the Round of 16 before being eliminated by Morocco.

According to Concacaf, the official governing body for football in North and Central America and the Caribbean, the elimination at the last-sixteen stage represents a historic benchmark for the Canadian national team at the global level.

It marks the first occasion on which Canada has progressed beyond the group stage of a FIFA World Cup, reaching the knockout rounds for the first time in the country’s footballing history. Concacaf has characterised the result as a significant milestone in the development of Canadian football on the international stage.

Morocco, which also recorded notable results throughout the tournament, defeated Canada in the Round of 16, bringing the North American side’s campaign to a close.
