Curaçao, an autonomous constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands situated in the southern Caribbean Sea, is preparing to make its first-ever appearance at a FIFA World Cup, scheduled for 2026.

According to GoogleNewsEN, Curaçao is located approximately 65 kilometres north of the Venezuelan coastline and covers an area of roughly 444 square kilometres, with an estimated population of 150,000 residents. The island is one of the ABC islands of the Lesser Antilles and serves as the largest of the three.

The national football team’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup represents a landmark achievement in the country’s sporting history. According to GoogleNewsEN, Curaçao secured its place in the tournament through the CONCACAF qualifying rounds. The 2026 World Cup will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and will be the first edition of the tournament to feature an expanded field of 48 participating nations.

Curaçao holds its own membership with FIFA, having previously competed as part of the Netherlands Antilles before that federation was dissolved. The national squad draws significantly from players of Curaçaoan descent who are professionally active at clubs across Europe, a factor that has contributed to the team’s growing competitiveness on the international stage.

The island’s debut at the World Cup is regarded, according to GoogleNewsEN, as a notable moment not only for Curaçao but for the broader Caribbean football region.
